Greg Ashby

BETTENDORF-Gregory Dean Ashby, 71, of Bettendorf, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, IA, with his wife and two daughters at his side. There will be no funeral service or visitation held. Private burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Greg's family. Gregory was born on May 19, 1949, in Rock Island, IL to Ernest and Dorothy Ashby. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1971, with time in Vietnam. He married Linda Wright in Davenport, IA on December 8, 1970. In 2014, Gregory retired from MidAmerican Energy after 47 years of service.

He enjoyed being with people, especially his family, which meant the world to him. Known as papa by his 7 grandchildren and those close to him, spending time with his grandkids filled him with joy. He enjoyed the outdoors, from running, when younger, to working in his yard, and even roughhousing and walking with his dog, Tiffany. He also liked watching NASCAR and vacationing with his veteran buddies. Greg was a kind and easygoing man, but knew how to have a good time. To know him was to love him. He was everyone's "Handy Man," every task done to completion and perfection.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Sue; daughters, Julie (Mark) Grant, LaPorte, IN and Rachel (John Schaffer) Ashby, Davenport, IA; brothers, David (Marsha)Ashby, Davenport, IA and Larry Ashby, Portland, OR; grandchildren, Cameron Ashby (Vivian Howe), Ethan, Joshua, Erika, Noelle, Kayla Grant, and Abigail Nasser; parents-in-law, Johnny, Jr. and Evelyn Wright, sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patricia Webster, and brother, Kevin Ashby.

Linda Gray Beardsley

Linda L. Beardsley, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at her home following a brief illness.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle Rd. in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the church.  Due to Covid-19 concerns, masks are required, and social distancing is expected.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

She was born in Davenport, Iowa on September 24, 1946, the daughter of Gerald and Ruth (Schoonover) Gray and was a 1964 graduate of Davenport West High School.  On August 10, 1968, she was united in marriage to Tom Beardsley in Davenport.

Linda retired at Vice-President of Operations for the First Midwest Bank in Moline, Illinois after many years of faithful service.  In earlier years, she worked as a teller at the former Davenport Bank & Trust.

She was a loyal member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and served on the Reunion Committee at Davenport West High School for many years.

A devoted wife, mom & grandma, Linda was always supportive of all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities over the years. She loved to travel, especially where the sun was shining, and a sandy beach awaited.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Tom; her daughters, Tracy Beardsley of Bettendorf and Jennifer Beardsley of Anchorage, Alaska; her grandchildren, Devon (& his fiancé, Aubrianne) and Emilly; her brothers, Tom Gray of Davenport and Tim (Connie) Gray of Blue Grass, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Deb Kelly; and many beloved nieces & nephews.

BETTENDORF-Thomas W. "Tom" Beardsley, 74, of Bettendorf, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle Rd. in Bettendorf. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The service will also be live streamed and may be viewed by visiting the website of Our Savior Lutheran Church at https://oursaviorbett.org. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Tom was born on June 20, 1946 in Davenport, the son of William and Maxine (Leach) Beardsley. He was a 1964 graduate of West High School and then joined the U.S. Navy where he served as an electronics technician aboard the USS Platte. Following his military service, Tom was united in marriage to Linda L. Gray on August 10, 1968. Tom worked for Alcoa for 38 years prior to his retirement in April 2002. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf and also served on the Reunion Committee at West High School.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughters, Tracy Beardsley of Bettendorf and Jennifer Beardsley of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Devon (and his fiancé, Abrianne), and Emilly; a brother, Bob (Sonja) Beardsley of Green Valley, Arizona; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, on October 31, 2020; and two brothers, John "Jack" and Robert Beardsley.
