Wells, Barbara Wells Howe

Below is a letter sent to Elizabeth Goodman Hallowell:

Elizabeth,

My name is Paul Howe, and I got a message from you through Classmates.com in May, and kind of lost track of it until today. Sorry about the long delay in responding.

You did indeed find the Barbara Wells you were looking for. I'm very sorry to have to tell you that Barb died from cancer in January 2002. I have kept her e-mail account open at Macalester College, where she worked for 21 years, in the off-chance that someone might try to contact her, as you did Barb and I met as Freshmen at Macalester, and were married on our graduation day in 1972. We've lived in St. Paul ever since. We had a wonderful 30 years together, and had four terrific kids, the youngest of whom is 13 and still at home with me.

Barb and her family moved to Davenport from Decatur, IL right before her senior year in high school, so she only attended West for one year, and didn't really establish any long-term friendships. Although she graduated from West, most of her upbirnging was in Decatur, and she did have occasional contact with a couple of friends from there for a while. Mostly, we stuck with our college friends since we stayed in St. Paul, and the last time she went to Decatur was probably in 1998.

Barb's parents have both passed on as well, but she had a younger sister,
Stephanie, and brother, Charlie, who live in Kansas City, MO and Clover, SC respectively, and are doing well.

I know you and Barb did not really know each other, but I thought you might be interested in her story for historical purposes, if nothing else. If you'd like to contact me, feel free to return e-mail, or call. Best bet would be my work number during the week, 651-281-3831, or my cell phone,
651-245-4771. Hope this helps bring your records up to date.

Regards,

- Paul Howe
