Greg Faust
Gregory Holland Faust, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 after a sudden decline in health. Greg was only 73 years of age.
Greg is survived by his wife Linda E. (Hein) Faust, his twin daughters Meredith E. (Faust) Roberts and husband Jeremy of Ivy, VA, and Katrina “Katie” D. (Faust) Koeppen and husband Dale of Reston, VA; his grandchildren Logan H. and Caroline E. Roberts; his sister-and brother-in law Anita L. and Richard D. Hegland; and his sister-in-law Carol Sue Hein. Greg was preceded in death by his parents Lela M. (Hollingsworth) and Bernard G. Faust; his mother-and father-in-law Jean M. (Chilcoat) and Lester L. Hein; and his brother-in-law Jim D. Hein.
Born on June 3, 1950, in Springfield, MA, Greg grew up in Davenport, IA. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1968. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1972, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Greg and Linda married on July 15, 1972 in Davenport, IA. Together with their children, Greg and Linda relocated to Charlottesville, VA in 1983 where Greg accepted a position at General Electric. His tenure at GE spanned 33 years until his retirement in 2016.
Greg was committed to service throughout his life. He was active in the Order of DeMolay; a 50-year dual member of both Davenport Masonic Lodge #37 and Widows’ Son’s Masonic Lodge #60 in Charlottesville, VA; and was a 50-year member of Davenport Chapter #178, OES. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League and was active in his local Amateur “HAM” Radio Club. In Virginia, he volunteered as an EMT for the Greene County Rescue Squad and later the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad. Due to his diagnosis, Greg was passionate about contributing to the research and advancement of treatment for Parkinson’s Disease.
Greg had an insatiable curiosity and enjoyed discussions with his family and friends about life, the universe, and everything. He enjoyed understanding technology and uncovering the inner workings of gadgets, with his basement “shack” serving as a sanctuary to radios and devices of all shapes and sizes. Greg’s idea of a wild night involved tinkering in his shack while sipping on a cup of coffee and/or indulging in his favorite sci-fi books and shows.
Behind his quiet and unassuming demeanor, Greg had a sharp wit and dry sense of humor. He was a connoisseur of dad jokes and puns. He surprised his family and friends with his uproarious and entertaining father-of-the-bride speeches that left his daughters and many other attendees crying with laughter.
In typical Greg fashion, there are no formal memorial services planned, as he had a long-standing wish to depart in a manner befitting Viking nobility. The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. In accordance with his wishes and sense of humor, an unconventional and (extremely) modified Viking sendoff will be part of the celebration.
