Stephen Toth Jr.
Stephen Toth Jr. passed away at 7:30 am July 29, 2024 of sepsis after a series of long debilitating illnesses in Crescent City, CA. Steve was 74 years old. Steve was an accomplished poet and 1972 graduate of the University of Iowa and member of its famed Writer's Workshop.
He published several volumes of his poetry and was a founding member of the Actualist Movement the 1970s and later became a renowned poet of the internet. Steve lived his life on his own terms with wife of 52 years Sheila, seeking to be one with nature and one with love.

Jim Kohl
Jim Kohl, 73, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at his home. The rite of cremation was accorded and a private memorial service was held. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family.
Jim Warren Kohl was born September 2, 1950, in Davenport, a son of Victor and Lorraine (Tschillard) Kohl. Jim graduated from Davenport West High School, Class of 1968, and then St. Ambrose College in 1972 with a Bachelor's in Psychology. He was united in marriage to Victoria "Vicki" Oberhaus on September 6, 1980, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport.
Prior to his retirement, Jim had been an operator at Locks and Dam 15, Rock Island, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Over the years, Jim enjoyed running and competing in the Bix. He also competed in wrist wrestling competitions with his brother. Jim took pride in gardening, grilling, and cooking. He liked making his prize winning chili for the annual chili cook-off.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Vicki; daughters: Erica Kohl of Davenport, Rachel (Erik) McDonald of Eldridge, Lisa (Michael) Warhank of Bettendorf; grandchildren: Abrie, Rye, Juliet, William; brother, Craig (Tina Cottrell) Kohl of Grand Mound; and nephew and niece, Eric and Anna Kohl.
He was preceded in death by his parents. |

John Hinckley
John D. Hinckley, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Harmony Davenport.
Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 10:45 a.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home.
John Duane Hinckley was born January 9, 1950, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Durward and BettyLee (Viers) Hinckley. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed his career as a cab driver.
John liked sports of all kinds, but especially baseball and bowling. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by two children, James (Cheryl) Hinckley of Fairfield, Iowa, Tanya (James) Richardson of Davenport, Shannon (Jason Bramlett) Lausen of Davenport, and James Hinckley of Davenport; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Hinckley of Lafayette, Indiana, and Paula (Keith) Lane of Crawfordville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Tina Olson; and a sister, Mary Owens.
