Class of '68 Quarterly E-Newsletter

October, 2004 Article

Autumn is finally here! In my area of Virginia, hotel rooms are booked up through early November for the "leaf-peepers," people who come from all over the United States to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, viewing the beauty of the forests exhibiting their colorful splendor. I've heard in the Mid-West there's been frost, enough to scrape off the car windshields. Rain in the Northwest, sun and rain on the Pacific shores and the Southwest. Our classmates in the Southeast have had a lot to deal with, however, with six hurricanes coming one after another. The residents of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, South and North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia and all the way up to Maine have said a prayer of relief the hurricane season is nearing an end. The clean up work has been immense; schools are just now opening and families are trying to put their lives back together.

And speaking of clean up work (smooth, huh!), our classmate information is continually being "cleaned up" for our records. Elizabeth Goodman Hallowell is still tracking folks down and submitting information about them. Her list of those to be located is getting smaller and smaller every week.

About half of our classmates don't have access to a computer. In order to communicate with ALL the classmates, this past week I sent a 'snail-mail' letter to EVERYONE asking for information to be updated. I'd like to do this once a year to keep addresses current (at the minimum). If you can read this, you can change your information on your profile on this website.

Last article I mentioned several classmates wanted to donate "to the cause" of keeping our class 'together' through the mailings, reunions, etc. A very generous classmate donated $1000 for "seed money" for (do I dare say it?) our 40th Class Reunion to be held in 2008. Thank You to the classmate who wishes to remain anonymous.

Ideas for our next reunion have been a bit slow coming in - several people would like a golf outing. Others have suggested having a combined reunion, classes of '67, '68, '69, for instance. Others have commented about having a LONGER reunion because time was too short to catch up with everyone at our 35th.

How 'bout it? Have you thought about our next Reunion and what you'd like to see happen? Your ideas, suggestions, and comments are ALL welcome.
